The Aztecs: Engineering an Empire ● The video starts with a depiction of a sacrificial ritual to the God of fertility ● The Aztec people were banished to a Lake Texcoco after they did their sacrificial ritual ● The new city that they now live in is Tenochtitlan ● Tenochtitlan is basically a floating city that could only be reached by boat ● Their new leader’s name is Acampapichtli ● Their new city had a rough start because there was nowhere to build a sturdy foundation ● The Aztec people were very clean with their hygiene ● They had a postal system that can be faster than out postal system today ● They constructed super highways throughout central Mexico ● They had a massive pyramid at the very center of Tenochtitlan ● That pyramid was the symbol of their absolute power, called Templo Mayor or Great Temple ● For the floors and wall of the temple, the Aztec applied a lime plaster ● The Aztec temple was buried until it was discovered in 1978 ● The most precious treasure for the Aztecs was human blood ● The most important warriors to the Aztecs were knights dressed as jaguars and eagles ● The spaniards were peaceful when they met with the leader of the Aztecs ● War eventually broke out as the spaniards disturbed a sacrificial ritual that was being held by the Aztecs ● The spaniards were caught off guard as they proceeded to run away in the dark of night with their newfound goods ● Tensions eventually led to an all out war which lasted many months Thoughts and Questions ● I was shocked about how often they did their sacrificial ritual. I did not expect that many bodies/skulls to be shown after their ritual. I did not expect the Aztecs to be able to create so many intricate water ways to water their garden. I can’t believe they could build temples that big with technology not as modern as ours....
