The Ottoman Empire Indirect Rule – Ottoman Pasha with an Ethnic background was sent to their respective Ethnic peoples to take care of the people’s problems. Land Grant System – Distributed conquered lands to successful commanders or bureaucrats. Then they will sub-contract the land to the different families. Every family that gets land grants will have to provide a soldier and a horse to the military. (Falls apart in the 1800s) Musadere System – Legalization of bribery of Officers. Officers can be given gifts and donations. All gifts have to be registered by the state. These possessions cannot be given as an inheritance. The wealth you accumulated has to be returned to the state. However, you can turn the wealth and create charities and put your family as board members so that you can continue ruling them. Mehmed II (1451-1481) Bayezid (1481-1512)

The Safevid Empire (1502-1722) – The Safiyyun Order Shah Ismael – Founder at age 16 Created a Turkish Shite State He declared himself the Reincarnation of Ali therefore legitimizing religious and political control of the Shite faith. The Shite began to forcefully convert Sunni people into Shite peoples. Bayezid was weak and could not do anything about the Safevid Empire. Selim went to Tabriz to spy on the Shite people. He was playing chess and gained a reputation. Selim then gets invited to play chess against Shah Ismael in the palace. Shah Ismael gave Selim a bag full of gold. As he was leaving Selim found a big rock and put the cold under a rock. When Selim took over Shah Ismael’s palace he sent his commander to take the bag of gold. Selim took out his father, his brothers, and their sons. Selim the Stern (1512-1520) Chaldiran Battle – 1515 – The Ottomans had field cannon Beginning with the Chaldiran Battles the Ottoman and Safevid Empires go to battle on an off until 1639

Then the OE asks for help from the Uzbeks to go against the Safevid Empire The governor of Aleppo (Who is under the Ottoman Empire) moves his Mamluk Troops to the Ottoman borders therefore legitimizing the battle for the Holy Lands. Mecca sends the keys to the City to Selim at Damascus. 1516 – Merj-I Dabik – The Ottoman spread into the Holy Lands 1517 – Ridaniyye – The Ottoman spread into Egypt...
