The difference between approaches to an essay question and a problem question is that an essay question is the main way of testing what the person has understood about the subject matter. It tests the depth of understanding and is aimed at testing how the person expresses his ideas. The approach to essay is to develop new ideas and improve the writing skills. The approach to essay writing is that it is an effective method of improving communication skills (a). The best approach to essay question is to maximize the understanding of the topic and apply your knowledge to answering the questions. Further it is necessary to allocate time prudently and avoid spending too much time on any one question.

In contrast a problem question is related to a fact scenario. The problem questions are designed such that they test the knowledge of the student in a particular area of law. The question requires the student to apply a specific area of law to the scenario presented. Problem questions are often presented as law school assessments. They reflect the typical activity that law school students are required to carry out. The approach to problem question is that it should provide advice that is balanced and objective in nature as applied to the fact scenario. The conclusion should have a view of the likely outcome of the situation. It should have the legal action that will occur. The approach to a problem should be that the writer should analyze the facts of the problem question in terms of the parties and events so that the writer understands what has been done to whom as this provides an important basis for structuring the answer. Further, the issue has to be analyzed. It has to be broken up into sub issues so that each can be independently analyzed in light of relevant law.
