Description

The giver summary In an apparently perfect society without war, suffering or differences, Jonas, who is the main character is appointed to become the new "Receiver of Memories", a sort of wise man who will continue the legacy of the ancient world as it was before. He learns from an old man called Giver. He continues memories of the ancient world and teaches Jonas about love, love and family, but also about pain, war and evil deeds. Suddenly, Jonas understands that the society he knows and lives in is a fake, polished version where all the edges - both the good and the bad - are worn away and that there is a real world beyond the forbidden city limit.

Choices In the Giver, we learn that choices about the future cannot be made without knowledge of the past. Because the characters in the novel have no memory, they cannot actively decide anything. Instead, they are governed by a strict set of rules which doesn't allow for free will. With little individuality and no freedom, choice is a foreign concept....
