The Great Gatsby Final Essay...

Description

The reincarnation of Gatsby’s Love

“Daisy tumbled short of his dreams-not through her own fault, but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion”, according to Nick, Daisy was not at fault because Gatsby’s illusion was spun by himself and was far bigger than the reality, nobody could possibly ever match up to Gatsby’s expectations or dreams. Gatsby was the perfect example of a rags-to-riches story, his achievements were impeccable, but he made the mistake of putting the burden of his success on the shoulders of a woman who would not be able to possibly balance it and maintain it. The passage indicates the point where Gatsby is impatiently waiting for Daisy to arrive at Nick’s residence as Daisy was invited by Nick to have tea. Previously, Nick agreed to help Gatsby with his plan of meeting Daisy but was anxious of how to approach her regarding this concern. Nick was a little offended when Gatsby offered to pay Nick for helping him with this plan of meeting Daisy. Nick wanted to genuinely help Gatsby and wanted nothing in return. The passage was including Nick’s assessment of Daisy and was completely accurate how he perceived and observed every emotion and feeling Daisy and Gatsby were going through at that moment. The given passage also explains how throughout the visit, Gatsby was having several thoughts of Daisy’s reaction of seeing him after a long time in a completely different phase both physically and financially. Moreover, Nick explains that over the years of Gatsby’s loneliness, he envisioned her as the ideal and perfect woman for him and his fantasies and illusions stood so strong that now after such a long wait, witnessing her presence seemed so overwhelming that he doubts whether Daisy will be able to picture his expectations the same way as he does. Nick was doubtful if Daisy could match up to Gatsby’s expectations and started to suspect if being with Daisy is an unrealistic expectation and the result would be unfruitful at some point. Through Nick’s perspective it seems that Nick did not have any issues in Daisy and Gatsby being together again but was not

sure if Gatsby would get the results he expected in the end or whether it will be a success or a failure. Gatsby is bewildered about his present happiness and questions the quality of his happiness as he does not feel a sense of fulfillment. It is immense irony that even though he is one of the richest people and finally has Daisy’s attention all to himself, he still seems to be in a dilemma or more likely confused of certain things. On the day of the meeting Gatsby was extremely nervous and could not control his raging heartbeat. Gatsby sends a gardener over to cut Nick’s grass and arranged for the flowers of Daisy’s choice before Daisy came over at Nick’s place. Gatsby’s reunion with Daisy was extensively awkward at first and Nick thought that leaving them alone for a while would help them talk and open up the awkward atmosphere a little. However, after Nick returns, he finds Gatsby and Daisy radiantly happy and smiling at each other and could witness the tears of joy and the glowing face of Gatsby was hard not to notice. After Gatsby and Daisy’s history is revealed in this chapter, the meeting between the two becomes inevitable at some point and highly appropriate that the theme has been continuously projected throughout, right from the past’s significance to the future of Gatsby’s fate. The novel explores the thoughts and ideas of love, success and an American dream, audience or readers get a clarity of Gatsby’s emotional side which is out of coordination with the time frame. When Gatsby accidently knocks of Nick’s clock, it’s a sign or symbolizes the fact that he wants to attempt to stop time and relive or retrieve the past with Daisy even though Gatsby knows things between him and Daisy will not be the same how they were five years ago in Louisville. At this point of the novel Gatsby’s character is at its utmost revelation, as readers or audience we never experienced Gatsby’s emotions on display until he met Daisy. He forgets to play his rich, oxford educated socialite role and expresses himself as a love-struck lover boy. The sincerity of emotions of Gatsby and Daisy bring out the best in them. When Gatsby takes Nick and Daisy to his mansion, Daisy is overwhelmed to see his prosperity and growth. Tears of joy come gushing down her eyes and sobs seeing

the expensive piles of English shirts. The plot completely drifts its focus to the romance of Gatsby and Daisy and the tensions they had 5 years ago. Nick observed Tom’s merrymaking with Myrtle and goes ahead with the commencement of Daisy’s extramarital affair with Gatsby and did not think he is making any mistake or taking part in any sin. Nick’s actions were justified by the intense and sincere love of Gatsby and Daisy feel for each other. Nick felt that kind of love was missing from Daisy’s relationship with Tom. In this chapter, Nick and Daisy were splendid to see Gatsby’s possessions but Nick’s narrative revealed that there was something fishy about this complete makeover from the aristocrat’s lifestyle of Gatsby. When Nick went on a date with Jordan, she paints Gatsby as a love struck, innocent and desperately wanting to win the woman of his dreams kind of a person but when Nick met Gatsby it was quite a contradiction from what Jordan said about him. According to Nick Gatsby was a businessman who was a crook, represented greed and moral corruption. Nick only realized how much Gatsby’s wait for Daisy along with the love and sincerity. Gatsby’s source of love can be related to the green light he saw at her dock from his mansion. It was so mysterious in chapter one but becomes the symbol of Gatsby’s dream and his love for Daisy. The green light is one of the most crucial point in The Great Gatsby but Fitzgerald leaves this meaning of green light up to the readers as it can have many meanings to it....
