Iksita Nallapaneni The Invisible Patients 

What did you learn from the film? o I learned some nurse practitioners make house calls or visit seeing 8-10 patients per day. Its surprising to see how many patients are unable to visit a doctor's office due to a combination of multiple chronic conditions, functional impairment, and poverty. It was also very upsetting to see how many important healthcare issues facing our country could be prevented. Many healthcare issues have to do with healthcare failing those who are weaker or poorer. It leaves healthcare up to individuals’ families and the corrupt insurance agencies. I can’t imagine the emotional burden that nurse practitioners and the care takers of these patients face when dealing with their tough lives. What’s your opinion about the quality of care the patients in the film received? o I feel as if those patients are lucky to have a nurse practitioner like Jessica and she takes care of them as best as she can. However, if healthcare providers are not given materials or are given too many patients it is difficult for them to offer proper care. Also employing more doctors and nurse practitioners in field and making home visits normal for people who are unable to help themselves or cannot afford ride to an emergency room or to call and ambulance. Has watching the film changed your view of nurse practitioners in general? o I did not realize the intensity of care that nurse practitioners conduct. They deal with the patients more as individuals which make their work a lot more personable, which is very difficult and emotionally draining....
