In the second leadership case, therapeutic techniques have been used to achieve this goal. Firstly, the therapeutic technique of active listening has immensely been used. For instance, when Sarah went to Beverly to explain to her what had happened, Beverly was paying close attention to her whilst encouraging her to continue to speak. Secondly, the technique of observation has been used by Ms. Beverly. In the process of examining the patient’s vitals, she observed a scratch on his arm to get to understand more about the scratch she then used the technique of asking open ended questions in a bid to seek clarification about how the fall happened. Additionally, when Ms. Hanford expressed her disappointment, Beverly responded using the therapeutic technique of empathy to recognize her feelings making her feel they are cared for. Furthermore, democratic leadership is also evident. After the incident with Nicki where Randy the patient fell while under her care, prior to making any decision, they listened to Nicki’s and Randy’s side of the story implying that though Beverly was the decision maker, she still valued the input of the other nurses. Autocratic leadership is also evident, in that Mr. Dwight as the head, he offers instructions to Beverly which she is expected to follow without fault as he is the decision maker When the patient fell, it was obvious that there was a conflict between the parties involved. For instance, Sarah is detailed when she explains the fall incident to Ms. Beverly making it easier to interpret and convey information. Secondly, accountability is also evident. Nicki was able to own up to her mistake of leaving the patient unattended without trying to blame it on someone else an was remorseful about the incident besides being willing to resolve the issue. Furthermore, professionalism is associated with treating clients, colleagues and staff considerably. Beverly exhibits empathy towards Randy the patient and his daughter. She focuses on patient-centered care which makes them feel cared for and therefore important. In order to ensure safety is enhanced, nurses should avoid distractions and interruptions such as the mobile phones during their service delivery as would divert their attention in which case raising the risk of accidents. Secondly nurses ought to focus on patient centered care which interrelates with safety and quality.
