THE OCTOBER CRISIS The Front de liberation du Quebec (FLQ) continued its campaign of terror and on OCtober 5th 1970 the group kidnapped James Cross, a BRitish diplomat, from his MOntreal home. In exchange for the safe release of Cross, the FLQ wanted the government to release FLQ members serving prison sentences, and to broadcast the FLQ mannifest on the radio, and to grant the kidnappers safe passage to another country. Federal and Quebec authorities agreed to broadcast the text of FLQ manifesto and to let the kidnappers leave the country but refused to release any FLQ prisoner from jail. In response, on October 10, the FLQ kidnapped LAbour Minister, Pierre Laporte. Trudeau asked Parliament to impose the War Measures Act. On October 17, police were led to an abandoned car and found the body of Pierre Laporte Two months later, the Montreal police tracked the group holding James Cross to a Montreal house.
