The Spent Game SOC 101 I had to make some very difficult choices to ensure that I would make it to the end of the month with money still in my pocket. I chose to let the police keep my car, bought cheap groceries, and didn’t pay my phone bill to make sure that I could have the necessities needed for my in-game child and myself. I also chose the most physical demanding job since it was the only one that guaranteed I would be making money although it wasn’t very much. I think this game is very realistic. Families who have trouble making ends meet have to make impactful decisions such as the ones in the spent game every day of their lives, but in reality, if we make a decision we don’t like we can’t restart and try again. Although it morally hurt me, I had to make choices such as putting the family pet down and not allowing my child to play sports to make sure there was money still available for bills and emergency situations. What I had learned from the game is that this is the unfortunate reality for so many Americans, including people I know. It’s easy to make a decision on the game, such as letting the police keep your car or not giving your mother money for her medicine because there’s no real-life consequences, but
knowing that this is what so many people have to endure makes my heart heavy, and leaves me wishing I had the capital to help those who are suffering....
