Description

Victoria Puckett, Anthony Mba, Walker Lierman TLC Plan 04/26/2018 Planning Questions: 1. We will transfer the ink from the letter to the TLC plate by soaking it in ethanol and using the solution on the TLC plate. 2. We will use the most polar and the least polar to determine which one is better for TLC separation. After completing a few trials and determining which are best, then we will mix those and test the separation to see if there is more separation in the process. 3. We will determine which ink matches the unknown by testing a couple solvents and figuring out which ones had the most seperation. Some things to consider is that the ink is not as strong as it should.

Procedure: 1. Gather Materials and prepare for experiment’ 2. Obtain 4 different solvents 3. Place mobile phase into beaker as well as TLC plate. 4. Seal beaker 5. Wait for indicated end point 6. Take out TLC plate and mark results with pencil so the results don’t fade 7. Calculate RF 8. Record DATA

Calculations:

Distance traveled by spot

Rf= distnace traveled by solvent front

Glassware/Specific Techniques - Thin-layer chromatography - Solution preparation - Determination of Rf - Glass Dish
