Hyperflexion: excessive flexion. Hyperextension: excessive extension. Abduction: movement away from midline of body. Adduction: movement toward midline of body. Circumduction: circular movement. Rotation: twisting movement. Medial (internal) rotation: movement of anterior surface of limb toward midline of body. Lateral (external) rotation: movement of anterior surface of limb away from midline of body. Supination: palms face upward. Pronation: palms face downward. Dorsiflexion: ankle movement that brings dorsum (“top”) of feet closer toward anterior tibia (foot points upward). Plantar flexion: ankle movement that brings plantar (“bottom”) aspect of feet away from anterior tibia (foot points downward). Inversion: turning plantar aspect of feet closer toward midline of body.
