UNGUARDED THE CHRIS HERREN STORY 1.

What was Chris Herrens’ addiction and what do you feel was the cause of his addiction? Chris Herrens’ was addicted to drugs and dangerous substance at different periods of his lifetime and he had mentioned time when he was using alcohol, heroin, cocaine, and smoking pot and lastly oxycontin. I feel that the cause of his addiction was related to the amount of pressure that he is receiving about being a great basketball player that no one has ever seen before in that area. It seemed like he had to carry the weight of his hometown throat and therefore to relieve himself he started to use drugs.

2. Do you think his addiction could have been prevented and how? I think that his actions could have been prevented by acquiring support and counselling about these consequences for such actions that he committed to. He could have also prevented substance abuse by searching for other hobbies and activities that could help himself feel less pain and struggles. 3. Who were the “enablers” in Chris’ life? Explain how they enabled him. The enablers in Chris’s life were his friends by peer pressuring him to do drugs along with them. After games and on school nights as well Chris used to do drugs with his friends. He was also caught out by the people in his everyday life most predominantly his roommates and drug dealers as his every day motivation is dependent on dealers. 4. Could you have the courage to help someone with an addiction or would you be the enabler? I would have the courage to help someone quit an addiction because I will not have the guilt of ruining someone’s life. It would also help me develop successful character traits along different

moments of my life. Finally, in my opinion it is my responsibility to help someone from this situation as a citizen of this country. 5. Why did Chris go to Boston College?

Chris chose to attend Boston College because he was grown in this city and he wants to attend a

local college.

6. Why was his sophomore year his best year in college?

His best year in college was his sophomore year because he performed astonishingly well that

season physically.

7. Why did Chris have a great rookie season with the Denver Nuggets?

Chris had a great rookie season with the Denver Nuggets because the team took care of him. They

applied restrictions and banned the intake of all drugs and substances. He described it as his

healthy year of his life because of how the team applied restrictions knowing his history.

8. Why was being traded to the Celtics a death sentence?

It was a death sentence because he is going back to his hometown where the substance abuse

problem had originally begun. He is now addicted to oxytocin and has an unlimited supply of it as he is the proximity of his friend’s bubble. He lied and lived a second life on drugs off the court

because he was addicted to oxycontin.

9. What did Chris feel was the contributing factor to finally getting sober?

Chris had believed that the factor to finally getting sober was to wash dishes for 18 hours in the

pot sink of rehab. It made him realize who he had to be.

Chris said that “chips from AA” was his greatest reward. Why do you think that is considering he had a room full of trophies in high school and played NBA basketball?

I think that his chips from AA are his greatest reward considering he has rooms full of trophies because through the hardships he had faced through his life, it defines him as a person with the power to rise above his fears, and obstacle to achieve his goal with resilience and determination....
