Unit 2-Discussion Forum UNIV-1001-AY2021-T1 Online Education Strategies Instructor: Mr. Brian Covelli

To succeed in college level writing, implementing important strategies to accomplish any writing task will be most helpful. First, analyze the assignment given by your instructor (e.g., subject/topic, genre of writing, and format). If still unsure on what to do, always ask your instructor for guidance. Second, plan your writing assignment in plenty of time and avoid last minute deadlines. Third, conduct thorough research of the topic you intend on writing about. The sources of research found must be evaluated and must decide if it has relevance to be used appropriately and integrate any citations into your paper if using thoughts or ideas of others. (Center for Writing, University of Minnesota, n.d.). When writing a paper, I believe you are simply stating your belief or supporting your position on where you stand about a certain topic or subject matter. In writing a discussion post, you are sharing your opinion or life experience about a topic of choice with other people and request and seek their opinion back in return. In a discussion forum, people can contribute feedback whereas on a written paper it can’t be done. The difference between writing an initial discussion post and response to your classmates is that by following the directions or guidelines set by the instructor. “Some instructors may have specific word count expectations or require certain things. Every instructor and every course is different, so make sure you understand what you’re supposed to be writing in your discussion post,” (Bladen Community College, n.d.), whereas when responding to a classmate the instructor may have a set of expectations for original posts and different rules for posts replying to your classmates.
