Draw on the knowledge you have acquired from reading the novel. The expectation is that your answers to each question should be one to two paragraphs in length. Questions: Question1: Why did Nick take care of Gatsby's funeral? Nick took care of Gatsby’s funeral because he was the only one interested in arranging the funeral. All of Gatsby friends, Meyer Wolfsheim and others never showed up. Moreover, they tried to ignore Gatsby’s death and wanted nothing of it. Nick, as a friend, cared for Gatsby more than others. He respected him and in his eyes, Gatsby was a good man. It is only natural that Nick wanted to arrange a funeral for the man he admired.

Question 2: How was Jay Gatz's childhood schedule consistent with the adult Gatsby's behavior? At the funeral, Nick met Gatsby father who showed him his son’s schedule when Gatsby was young. At the time, Gatsby was nothing but a poor farm boy but by looking at his daily schedule, Nick could tell Gatsby was very ambitious and full of

determination. “Study needed inventions” Nick could tell that Gatsby was hardworking and eager. Gatsby was also working hard for changes in his character and to become a better person, “Be better to parents”. All these determinations and hard work from the schedule of a young boy, still exist in the adult Gatsby; he was still just as determined in achieving his goal, Daisy. He worked hard to gain wealth just to be near Daisy and regain her love.

Question 3: Who attended Gatsby's funeral? How and why is this significant? Nick, the minister, Henry Gatz (Gatsby's father), four or five servants, the West Egg postman, and Owl Eyes (the man who attended one of Gatsby's parties). This was significant because it really shows what East Egg and West Egg was about. He had no true friends. Meyer Wolfsheim, a close working partner of Gatsby turned down the invite to Gatsby’s funeral by Nick because he didn’t really care about Gatsby, only his money. All the other people of the city who attended Gatsby’s parties every night are nowhere to be seen because as Nick thought, they have little care for Gatsby. Tom and Daisy, who were responsible for these consequences hid behind their money and left town. It seemed that Nick was the only friend Gatsby had.

Question 4: What is the purpose of Nick's last meeting with Jordan? After the funeral, Nick found out that Gatsby was actually innocent. He was disgusted of the shallow lifestyles of the people of West and East Egg. He decided to return to the Middle west. In doing so, he wanted to cut all ties including that with Jordan. Though he didn’t want to just leave like other people, he wanted to be responsible and settle this face to face. After their meeting, Jordan told him that she had met someone, but he didn’t know whether she was lying or telling the truth because he knew Jordan is a dishonest character....
