WHAT IS THE UNIT ABOUT? Unit!description! The!question!of!‘what!remedy’!permeates!all!areas!of!law:!contract,!property,!company! law,!insolvency!law,!tax!law,!etc.!This!unit!provides!students!with!an!integrated! understanding!of!the!role!of!remedies!in!the!law!though!exposure!to!the!differing! types!of!remedy!–!from!self-help!remedies!to!compensation!and!equitable!remedies.! As!remedies!form!part!of!all!common!law,!we!will!be!considering!cases!from!a!number! of!other!countries!in!our!journey.!!Most!of!these!are!from!the!United!Kingdom,!but!we! may!also!be!looking!at!cases!from!New!Zealand!and Canada!as!we!look!at!and!compare! the!divergence!of!Australian!law!from!all!of!these!jurisdictions.!!! !

Learning Access Plan Adjustments If you are on a Learning Access Plan (LAP), you are still required to satisfy all of the Threshold Learning Outcomes (TLOs) of this unit. The TLOs set out what an LLB graduate ‘is expected to know, understand and be able to do’ as a result of their learning in the course; they are ‘expressed as minimum standards of performance, achievement or attainment’. For example, the TLOs require that you: •
communicate in ways that are effective, appropriate and persuasive for legal and non-legal audiences;
•
collaborate effectively; and
•
learn and work independently.
You are responsible for making yourself aware of the TLO standards and for proactively engaging with academic staff to adequately and appropriately implement adjustments to unit requirements. Any requests for extensions on assignments must comply with ‘Requests for extensions’ as stated in this Unit Outline. For the avoidance of doubt, you are required to request any extension prior to the due date for the assignment, even if your LAP indicates that extensions should be considered. You are specifically expected in this unit to: i. ii. iii.
Proactively assess the compatibility of all unit assessment with your current Learning Access Plan; Identify the need for adjustments in accordance with their Learning Access Plan; and Discuss any proposed adjustments with the Unit Coordinator during Week 1 or within one week of the development of a new Learning Access Plan.
NOTE: You are required to provide a copy of your LAP to Dr Elise Histed within two weeks of the start of semester, or within obtaining one. If you do not, she will not make any special arrangements for you. !
