Assignment for Renaissance Age Of Reason...
Diamante Rosa Alfonso HUM 2235 Professor Ciamparella 24 September 2019 Utopia Thomas More was an author that was ahead of his time. When he wrote Utopia, he expressed many ideas that were not reflected until much later on. One of the main issues/ideas portrayed was religious tolerance. During a mainly Catholic time, there were many ongoing issues with religious tolerance. People would look down on others, or even fear them if they believed in something different. More believed that no man should be prosecuted or punished simply because of their different religion; this is why in his book, Utopus made a law that every man had the right to be whatever religion they chose. Once again, More was ahead of his time; the issues present in Utopia still circle around today. Nowadays, there is more leniency and religious tolerance, but there is still fear. In the United States, for example, there is religious freedom in this country; however, after the 9/11 tragedy, people began to look down at Muslims and some people still do to this day. People believe that because of those terrorists, that all of the Muslim people are the same, which is not true. We have religious tolerance, yes, but still live in a society where tolerance does not mean acceptance....
