Description

TED Talks presentation: "A Queer Vision of Love and Marriage." 1] How do Katrin and Tiq define: Queer, cisgender, transgender? Tig said, “That the F on my birth certificate should have stood for false.” I took that as him stating that he doesn’t agree with the sex that was given at birth. Tiq also sated that walking as a woman in the world was as if he was walking around with pebbles in his shoes. That it took the rhythm out of his swagger so to speak. He is basically is his own version of what a man looks like and is speaking his truth. Katrin states that she is a cisgendered queer woman and that the sex she was assigned to at birth is and will always be female. She also went on to say that it doesn’t make her natural or normal that it’s just one of the many ways they exist in the world. Katrin goes on to state that queer is a cultural term but in her case that it means she’s not restricted by gender when choosing partners. All in all in my opinion at least that these terms at least where queer is concerned is a bit subjective and that it means different things for different people.

2] What does love mean for them? Love for them at least from what I gathered is not assuming what kind of love the other may want but by asking what kind of love they may need. That it’s above loving someone as they are not who they’re suppose to be. Loving each other whole and creating a space to be yourself instead of feeling like you can’t.

TED Talks presentation: Kimberle Crenshaw on "The Urgency of Intersectionality." 3] Explain fully what Kimberle Crenshaw means by "Intersectionality?" When she defines intersectionality she defines it as the fact that many of the social justice problems like racism and sexism overlap which creates multiple layers of social injustice. Also that intersectionality has raised awareness to the way how black women live their lives. It also shows the way that black women die.

4] Describe the "Say Her Name" project. How did it come about? In 2014 the African American Policy Forum demanded for us to say her name at rallies, protests, and wherever we can. So that we can bear witness to the violence and such that black women have to face. It’s also about breaking the silence about the violence that is against black women and girls....
