Watson's TDA The Watson family experienced several conflicts that caused change and growth in the characters. One of the characters that experienced growth and change after going to Birmingham in the Watsons is Byron. After going to Birmingham, Byron became a more responsible kid. One way that Byron became a more responsible kid is that he is making better choices. In one instance when Kenny, Joey, and Byron go to Colliers Landing Byron listens to Grandma Sands and doesn't go swimming in Collier's Landing. When before Byron would've done the opposite of what any adult told him to do. Another example of Byron making better choices in Birmingham is that he doesn't get in trouble as much as he used to back in Flint. In Flint, Byron used to make bad choices. For example, he was playing with matches in the bathroom, he signed for Swedish Cremes at Mitchell's even though he wasn’t allowed to, and he got a conk haircut even though is parents disapproved it. After going to Birmingham, Byron changed his ways and didn’t get in trouble at all, unlike Flint where he used to get in trouble all the time. Next, Byron is more responsible because he is kinder to Kenny. One example is that Kenny was hiding in the World-Famous Watson Pet Hospital and Byron dragged him out to help Kenny start to feel better. Byron tries to get Kenny to do activities with him, so Kenny doesn’t feel unhappy anymore. Another time when Byron was acting kinder than he usually is to Kenny, is when Kenny starts to cry in the bathroom. Byron lets Kenny cry and tells Kenny that there is no Wool Pooh and there is no reason to fear anything. When Kenny cries, Byron doesn’t call him any names and just lets Kenny's tears soak up his pants. These actions show that Byron is acting kinder as a person to Kenny. Lastly, Byron is more caring after going to Birmingham then he was back in Flint. For example, Byron saved Kenny from the Wool Pooh (whirlpool) at Colliers Landing. After Byron had dragged Kenny to the shore of Collier's Landing, Byron made sure that Kenny was ok and not injured or hurt. Another example of Byron being more caring is when the bomb went off at the church. As soon as Byron figures out that a bomb went off at Joey's church, Byron wrestles into a pair of pants and bolts to Joey's church to make sure she is ok. These examples show that Byron has become a more caring person after going to Birmingham. Byron experienced many conflicts throughout the book. These conflicts caused significant change and growth in Byron. After going to Birmingham, Byron became an overall more responsible kid....
