What is the relationship between macro-culture, micro-culture, and power? Hello Class, Macro-culture can be defined as a dominant culture of a society whereas a micro-culture is a smaller subset of the macro-culture. Additionally, power is the ability or capability to directly influence other’s behaviors, acts and norms. In my opinion the relationship between macroculture, micro-culture and power is that micro-culture is a subset meaning a part of macroculture for example a religion in a community whereas power is within both macro and microculture although it all depends on the weight of that power. A religion can have a big impact on macro-culture if the micro-culture(religion) has a big group. Reimond How does the communication between micro-culture add to the notion that culture is dynamic and heterogeneous? Hello Class, The communication between micro-culture adds to the notion that culture is dynamic and heterogenous by making or forming new language. Micro-culture comes from a small subculture of a larger cultural setting. It has some special aspects which are borrowed from the larger cultures and can develop new forms of language from it. It is also considered to be independent from the main culture. This give rise to the new ways of communication and practices which is slightly or more different from the main cultures. Culture is dynamic and heterogeneous means that diverse in character or content which means that culture changes. Reimond ASSESSMENT: Your current daily work environment or life routine – Do you experience culture? In your daily job or daily routine, whatever that might be, do you experience a microculture or a macro-culture or both? If so, briefly explain your understanding of the cultures experienced and how they might be classified as one or the other or both. You will find that these class concepts truly are part of your everyday lives in the conversations you have with the people you encounter. Hello Professor Cartee, In my working environment I believe that I experience both micro-culture and macro-culture. My co-workers at the front of the store, co-workers in the pharmacy and I are from different cultural backgrounds. Most of us that work in the store and the pharmacy are from different parts of the world. Although, I would say that in my daily job I also macro-culture because most of our customers who come into the store are predominantly Caucasian and elderly which could fall into the macro-culture category. Therefore, I able to diversity within my workplace while also feeling out of place when it comes to the people who I am helping out. This does not only happen in my workplace but in much of the city where I live. While the people who I am close

with come from different backgrounds, majority of the people who I encounter out in public who I do not know are Caucasian. Reimond In my opinion, the relationship between these three terms is that you can join people from different micro-cultures to create one macro-culture which would have power over the other based on the size. Have a great week! Tamura Salt Hello Tamura, I agree with you. Power varies from the size of the culture. Power depends on the size of the culture, whether it is from macro-culture or micro-culture. For example, a macro-culture can have a big population like America but have different micro-cultures or subcultures like religion. Additionally, power would depend on the size of the religion in the subcultures. Reimond...
