Description

Welcome to the Finance and Society. Congratulations on studying BFX3999! BFX3999 is intended to contextualise students' acquired knowledge from previous units for solving problems in real-world domestic and global situations. Two distinct teaching approaches are adopted to achieve the learning objectives: (1) Case-based teaching (weeks 1-6), and (2) Laboratory sessions (weeks 7-12). Please check the handbook to ensure you have met the enrolment rules to undertake this unit: https://handbook.monash.edu/2021/units/BFX3999 Our Livestream Seminars and Labs are via Zoom and you can find the links under the “Workshop Links” folder. I would like to draw your attention to the requirements of CASE STUDIES (weeks 1-6): In the first 6 weeks, the delivery of the unit will be based on a 2-hour workshop and a 1-hour lecture. All workshops will be conducted via Zoom (Please refer to Moodle for the workshop Zoom links). Workshops and lecture are not recorded in this unit, so your attendance is crucial in your learning journey. In most weeks you should be familiar with the content and the lectures should be acting as a refresher to focus you for the given week's case submission. •

The unit has 100% internal assessment. Assessment commences in teaching week 2 with the first case submission (refer to Topic schedule for due dates) Every week you are required to conduct research and analysis in relation to a case, and submit your individual report. This case will then be discussed in class during your allocated 2-hour workshop. Your personal engagement and participation will be assessed. During week 1's workshop, we will: (i) cover a few housekeeping matters, including unit schedule, assessment tasks, staff contact hours, and (ii) discuss a boot camp case - "Ocean Carriers". You do not need to evaluate this boot camp case prior to attending the workshop but please find time to read the case (at least once). Important: •

Pay attention to the “CONTACT US” methods and chose the one which applies to your query. Otherwise, you will receive a delayed response as the priority in responding goes to those have chosen the right channel for raising their query.

kind regards, Dr. Ali Sheikhbahaei...
