WELCOME TO CONTRACTS (LAWS1200) Session 1, 2020 Welcome to all new students of LAWS1200 Contracts. Please note the following: 1.

Please ensure you have completed the Academic Integrity Module (AIM), or an equivalent, in order to obtain access to all the content in the unit iLearn site. You should ensure you are able to access your iLearn account at all times. Please access the iLearn Contracts unit page on a regular basis for all announcements, notices to students, lecture Powerpoint slides, ECHO360 lecture recordings etc.

2. Make sure you have a copy of each of the following documents, all of which will be available on the iLearn unit web page before classes start: Unit Guide, Lecture Program, and Tutorial Program. 3. Read the Unit Guide carefully so you know what you need to do to complete your unit successfully. Familiarise yourselves with the Lecture Program, which contains the topics and readings. The Tutorial Program contains the questions to be discussed in class and is to be brought to every tutorial. Other materials useful to your studies will be available in iLearn. 4. Please obtain the two prescribed texts before the commencement of classes. They are Radan, Gooley & Vickovich, Principles of Australian Contract Law (4th ed 2018) and the companion Cases and Materials casebook (4th ed 2018). The texts should be purchased as soon as possible. This session, you should order them from online retailers such as Zookal or Booktopia, or the LexisNexis e-store directly. I am advised student discounts are available. 5. This semester, weekly two-hour lectures will be delivered live each Wednesday starting at 1pm in The Forum, 17 Wally’s Walk. They will be recorded and made available through ECHO360 in iLearn. The first lecture will be delivered in week 1 on Wednesday 26 February. Paying careful attention to the lecture material and completing the required readings are crucial to doing well in this Contracts unit. 6. Tutorials for internal students start in Week 1 (which begins on Monday 24 February). The first tutorial will deal with the Legal Problem Solving Model. Read about this before class in the first 1

few pages of the Tutorial Program. Also read about the Case Briefs that you are asked to prepare for every tutorial. A Case Brief Template is available in iLearn. 7. It is expected that students will attend tutorials regularly. Contracts is a fundamental and core Law unit, and the most valuable learning happens in the class room. Make sure you are enrolled in a Tutorial group and that you attend only that group for the rest of the semester. Tutorials this semester are on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Participation in tutorials enables the tutor to allocate a class mark. Students who wish to be excused from a tutorial should make a Special Consideration application through ask.mq.edu.au. 8. If you are an external student, you are expected to attend a two-day On Campus Session (OCS) to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday 14-15 April. Details about the OCS will be announced and made available on iLearn approx. two weeks earlier. Participation in the OCS enables the tutor to allocate a class mark. Students who wish to be excused from the OCS should make a Special Consideration application through ask.mq.edu.au. 9. Please create a name tag using the ‘Name Tag’ template in iLearn. Substitute your first name for ‘Mary’ in the same font and size, print it out, fold it and place it in front of you in every tutorial or at the OCS. It is your responsibility to display your name in class at all times so your tutor will know who you are and be able to award you a class participation mark. 10. All students are requested to post their student card photograph to their iLearn page. This will help Tutors identify students for class participation mark purposes. 11. Announcements to the cohort will be made through the announcements link in iLearn. The Discussion Board will be available for students to discuss matters and exchange information and ideas. Any student posting on the Discussion Board must be careful to comply at all times with the Student Code of Conduct, which can be found online in Policy Central. Student inquiries about the unit and assessments should be submitted through the link in iLearn "Questions about the Unit and Assessments". These communications are shared. 12. Students may communicate with me about their individual matters through the link in iLearn "Communicate privately with Unit Convenor". No responses are provided via private

email. These communications are confidential. 13. My consultation time is on Wednesdays from 11.30am to 12.30pm in 6 First Walk 624. You may attend without appointment at that time. Contact me by the email link in iLearn if you cannot make it at the usual consultation time. Ilija Vickovich Unit Convenor 17 February 2020 2...
