Euphemistic language is the action of replacing an offensive or unpleasant words with non-offensive and pleasant sounding word. Euphemistic language is used on day to day basis in the United States. It was somewhat of a cultural shock and a transition for me to use euphemism. As where I come from, we tend to say it the way it is. If someone died, then we just say died instead of passed away. If a person was laidoff, we say fired and not in between jobs. Due to this cultural difference people at first thought that I was being rude or mean, but the fact of the matter is, I am not used to using euphemistic language. I think there are advantages and disadvantage to euphemism. Once I was accustomed to using euphemism I found that it was a way of comforting people. While I also see that some people use euphuism to manipulate and fool others and therefore hide truths. This is definitely a disadvantage that if we could eliminate, we would be much better off....
