WHO IS THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES? DIANA ROSE I. ORILLA STEM 11-08, Senior High school Department Polytechnic University of the Philippines

A group, people, or country needs someone who has the courage to lead and who is a responsible one, a person who has the skills to: make a right decision for the betterment of the country and the people, stand firm on what is right, doesn’t decide impulsively and many more. That someone is what we call the “President” today, to attain that position in the country, an election must be done and he/she must be appointed by the majority of the people. Of course, people would vote someone as the president who have done many things that is better for the country. A lot of presidents have passed but all of the country’s problems were never solved just by one leader only. Century has passed since the election of the first Philippine President wherein only few voters were present that time. Particularly, those Filipinos who were in Hacienda Tejeros were part of the meeting and also the members of Katipunan. Some members of Katipunan opposed the election, insisting that their Supremo, Andres Bonifacio should be the President and there’s no need of election. But since they were implementing the democracy, still the election happened. And then Emilio Aguinaldo won as the first president of the Philippines because he was voted by the majority. That was the highlight of the movies, and I noticed that both the movies are bias to the protagonist nevertheless, Aguinaldo was said a traitor to his own land and to Bonifacio. But in my own criticism, Andres Bonifacio is the first president of the Philippines not because of the title in the movie but because of his bravery and love for his motherland. He dared to sacrifice his life just by making and leading a group of Filipinos to fight the Spaniards and make the Philippines free from their slavery. Because of what happened to the 3 friars which is the Gomburza, he remarked to himself that someday he would stand and fight for the freedom and rights of the Filipinos to its own land. Only those people who have an unending love for his roots and motherland were brave enough to make a move for the better and sake of the Philippines specially of the Filipinos, they have compassion for their brothers and sisters that are not even blood-related to them....
