Professor Gomen English 1301 04 August 2021 ABC News. “Why Do People Follow the Crowd?” ABC News, 14 Jan. 2006, abcnews.go.com/Primetime/Health/story?id=1495038. In "Why Do People Follow The Crowd?" ABC News covers how Dr. Gregory Berns, a professor of behavioral science, conducted few experiments to answer why people are conformists. In one of the experiments, the participants are asked to answer questions privately and then answer other questions aloud in front of the other participants. Only one participant knew what the experiment was about, and the other participants are told to respond with the same answer. Only one participant was being tested and went along with the group responses even if they were wrong. On the other experiment, a group of people was taken to eat out. One person knowingly is supposed to exhibit behavior that most people wouldn't do at a dinner table. She starts grabbing fruit with her mouth and gets the others to do so, thus showing the human need to conform. Towards the end, Dr. Berns does an MRI to see how their brains react towards those two situations. In conclusion, these experiments demonstrated that people could affect other's behavior, and those who decide to speak their opinion fear to stand alone....
