What did you observe about the people when you conducted your survey in your selected local community? Throughout this survey I was really able to analyze the city of Chicago’s inner infrastructure as well as their community compared to the state of Illinois as a whole. I was able to find that the city’s top three areas of employment were Leisure and Hospitality, Government jobs, and Professional and Business Services. However these were not the top earners of the city. The median income of families in the city was around $55,000 a year with only 37.5% of the community making more than that per year- only 14.3% of the community makes $150,000+ /year. Through my research I was able to find that 16.4% of people live below the poverty line in the city of Chicago in comparison to the 11.5% that live below the poverty line in the state of Illinois. When looking at education in this community, it was safe to say that the majority of the population was educated with at least a high school diploma however only 34% of the population actually holds a university degree. The population mainly is comprised of people between the ages of 18-64 and there is almost an equal ratio of males to females living in the city as well.

Running Head: WINDSHIELD SURVEY Summarize of your windshield survey that reflects people.
Murad 12
What did you observe about the location of the systems you identified? Are there duplicate services close to each other? In the City of Chicago there are a lot of duplicate services available to accommodate to the large population living I the city. There are numerous medical services available, as well as public services. The city tries very hard to accommodate for people living with financial burdens offering public facilities, however they also offer private facilities to cater to the needs for those who can afford it. Are resources accessible by transportation services? Most if not all resources in the city of Chicago are accessible by transportation services due to the cities massive public transportation system that covers more than 2,000 miles of the city through train and bus. Is there a service in your community that is provided but not accessible by a certain part of the community? No, everything is accessible in the city of Chicago for those who need the service. They provide numerous public facilities to cater to the needs of the public. Is there a service not provided in your community? Virtually all services that a community member will need is provided by the city, whether it is health related or academically related the city does a good job trying to cater to the needs of its residents. There can be improvements on the services offered but ultimately the services are offered Is there a population growth or decline based on # live births in your community? Summarize of your windshield survey that reflects Location (pp. 464-466). Given the information above is there a correlation between industry and the medical problems in your community?
12
Running Head: WINDSHIELD SURVEY Murad 13 I wouldn’t necessarily say that the medical problems correlate to the industry in Chicago, I think it has more to do with the population as a whole. Factors such as the city having such a large population and such low public health education make a conniving argument that they are the root to their medical problems. What is the Flora and Fauna like? N/A Geographically are there boundaries that you could identify? The city is divided into The North Side, The South Side, The West Side and The Loop (downtown). The city also boarders Lake Michigan. West of Chicago is Berwyn, north of Chicago is Skokie, and south of Chicago is Blue Island.

Running Head: WINDSHIELD SURVEY Analysis: Identify one strength of your community:
A strength in this community is their focus on public health. They offer numerous STI clinics, health clinics, dental health programs, as well as mental health clinics to cater to the needs of their residents. Since the community is so large, the city puts an emphasis on public health, especially post COVID-19. Short term goal (within a few months): The short term goal for this community would be to educate people more about the public health issues the community currently faces and to push them to get regular check ups at the facilities provided for them. Long term goal (3-5 years): The long term goal for this community would be to cater to the needs of those living below the poverty line and focusing more on their healthcare needs. This will greatly impact the public health of the community. It is also adamant that the community become more educated on STI presentation and safe sex because the city is currently dealing with a very large number of STI’s. Identify one weakness of your community: The biggest weakness in this community is education. The majority of the population is not educated beyond a high school diploma which impacts their ability to get jobs that can provide for them and their families. Although COVID caused a lot of people to lose their jobs, most of those people were the ones who did not hold professional degrees. Short term goal (within a few months): The short term goal for this community would be to educate people about Job opportunities and provide options for employment to help the cities unemployment rate especially post COVID-19. This would help increase family incomes and improve the community’s economy as a whole, which would positively impact other aspects of the community as well- for example, the crime rate, poverty rate, education rate, etc. Long term goal (3-5 years): The long term goal for this community would be to cater to the needs of those living below the poverty line and focusing more on their needs, whether it is their healthcare needs, housing, etc. This will impact the economy of the city for the better and ultimately lead to better programs that the city can implement to improve their infrastructure. Part of this would include focus on making sure residents can get educated in universities and complete their high school diplomas so that the amount of people holding degrees in the city can increase beyond the roughly 30% it currently stands at. Reflection: What is something new that you learned about your chosen community? Something new I learned about the City of Chicago is the amount of programs they offer. I knew that the city offered programs regarding health, education, and youth services, however I didn’t know how many were 14
Murad 15 Running Head: WINDSHIELD SURVEY offered. I truly believe that the city is making an effort to improve its infrastructure and focus on the well being of its residents, I just think it will take time...
