Gabrielle Gonzalez SPC2067-0008 1 February, 2018 Short Writing Assignment 1: Biographical Writing Romero Brito is mostly known for his easily recognizable bright and energetic pieces. Growing up in a poor household, Brito was restricted from playing with anything other than a piece of newspaper and some paint. Due to the conditions he was raised in, art was his form of escape and something he claims kept him away from the darker side of his childhood because he was always focused on such vibrant and colorful imagery. Brito’ s first creation went public at the age of fourteen. This showing lead to him receiving many praises and honors for his work. However, Brito decided for himself to take a more realistic path and attend law school. Two years after attending the Catholic University of Pernambuco, Brito decided that it was not the life he wanted for himself and moved to Europe to pursue and study painting in 1989. Shortly after his move to Europe, he was noticed by many private and corporate collectors such as Disney, Apple and, Pepsi. Many of his earlier pieces were created by what he describes as “ just his active imagination”or were copied works of Toulouse Lautrec. His work stood out to many because of his use of different bold, modern and colorful aspects. Brito utilizes complex cubism and the techniques of pop art while reinterpreting art and its role in life. Once Brito finished his schooling in Europe he moved to the United States. That is where he opened his first gallery on Lincoln Road, which is located right off of South Beach in Miami.

Now, he has pieces spread throughout all of South Florida, but mainly Miami and Coconut Grove. Through all of the positive energy that is radiated from his pieces, Brito now dedicates his time and pieces to organizations such as St.Jude’ s Children’ s Research Hospital, the American Red Cross, and Best Buddies. He also has been commissioned to create pieces for other companies such as Volvo, Bentley, Audi, FIFA and Absolut Vodka along with other well-known artists such as Andy Warhol. Romero Brito is now the youngest and most successful pop artist of this generation.
