Introduction Barclays is a multinational financial services provider domiciled in London. Amidst increasing regulatory pressure and market demand caused by industry disruptors who provide modern digital services, Barclays, with a vision of increasing innovation and productivity, puts forth an Application Platform-as-a-service (aPaaS) to consolidate on its Cloud program, while adopting an Agile, DevOps approach to application development. Some of the benefits included providing for developers on-demand, self-service capabilities, resulting in the bank’s improved efficiency and agility, helping it innovate faster and stay competitive. (Red Hat, n. d). Barclays is one of the corporations with the highest and widest implementation of Agile. The company’s Agility Capability Lead recognizes that over the past 325 years of the innovative existence of the company, the Agile and Lean approach has proven to be a better way of working than the historical Waterfall approach. One way Agile has helped it maintain a competitive advantage is that the adoption of the Agile process has made it seen a 300% increase in throughput (average stories done per month per app). Also, code complexity has also dropped drastically by 50%. The team that employed the Agile approach also recorded higher happiness and job satisfaction. (Linders, 2016). These pay-offs from Agile aided the company in being more efficient and effective as they took the lead in launching new products to the market and were able to swiftly provide feedback to customers. (Null, n. d). Porter’s value chain stresses systems and how inputs are converted into outputs purchased as value by the customer. Porter’s value chain comprises a chain of primary and support activities common to all businesses which are: Inbound Logistics, Operations, Outbound Logistics, Marketing and sales, Services; Firm infrastructure, Human resource management, Technology development, and procurement, respectively. (Mind Tools, n. d). One primary activity impacted

by the company’s implementation of Agile is in its Human Resource Management. Smart noted that Barclays has a lot of progressive enabler themes like redesign and re-arrangement of the workspace to encourage more robust collaboration amongst team members. (Linders, 2016). Having succeeded in this, the bank plans to provide public cloud computing services, offering them across both public and private clouds. .
