The first Lord of the Rings movie, Fellowship of the Ring, is a three hour treasure chest of content and information, and a good place to start for an international relations course. The scene in which a private meeting is called, attended by Frodo, Gandalf, Legolas, Boromir, Gimli, Strider, and more, is an excellent example of diplomacy in the movie. In this scene, the elves, hobbits, dwarves, and representatives of other Middle Earth regions come together to discuss the best way forward in regards to the ring. This reminds me of the Iran Nuclear Deal, or the Paris Climate Agreement, or even older agreements such as the Camp David Accords. All of these included countries coming together to discuss the best way forward. However, oftentimes one country doesn't just step up and commit to taking on the project themselves, with other countries as back up, but this scene does give an excellent example of the conflicts and disagreements that happen when trying to discuss the best way forward. I am excited to see what happens in the sequels....
