The pros and cons of specific institutions and programs that a student is considering for transfer The cost of tuition and the requirements for admission to the transfer institution The usefulness of the Degree Audit in ATLAS The courses necessary for a student to complete an AA degree and be prepared for transfer to another institution The amount of time required for completion of an AA degree

Instructions: Complete all four parts from this handout in order to earn full credit for the Academic Blueprint assignment. You will need to upload your Degree Audit, your Degree Program Sheet, and this document to Canvas. This document must be typed. Remember to upload all three items in Canvas before clicking “Submit Assignment.”

Part 1: Where am I going? Complete the form below by identifying two institutions you are interested in attending once you complete your AA at Valencia. You can determine institutions that would be a good match for your degree or other “wants” on the College Navigator website (http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/). Respond to the series of questions about the two institutions in the space provided using complete sentences. Each question must have a detailed response; using “none” or “N/A” as a response is not sufficient. Consider what is most important to you, the pros and cons of an institution, and what you want for your future. You should reference your institution’s website or College Navigator to obtain information to assist with your responses. Be sure to check off which institution has the advantage for each category; use your responses and the advantage check-marks to determine which institution is currently your future transfer school.

a. Business Administration b. Core business function

Advantage

College Choice #2: a. FSU is located in Tallahassee, Florida. Urban b. My plan would be to live off campus

a. Business Administration b. Core business function

Advantage Tuition/Cost: a. What is the cost of one year’s tuition? (find the cost with College Navigator) b. Calculate the overall tuition cost for your degree. (answer from a. X number of years) c. List the other expenses you would incur at this school (room and board, transportation). Environment/Campus Setting: a. Describe the size and setting of the campus. b. Evaluate if the school has the conveniences and necessities you want (ex: social and recreational activities, weather, child care, etc.)

Updated June 2018

a. In-state is $6,368, out-of-state is $22,467 b. $22,467 c. Room and board is $10,010, books and supplies are $1,200

a. Very large campus, the student population is b. Very huge campus, it has everything that I need to study. After class, I do not need to go anywhere to relax, I only need to stay on campus, UCF campus is like a small town in Orlando, Florida, everything is in there and we only need to stay there and focus on studying

a. In-state is $5,656, out-of-state is $18,786 b. $18,786 c. Room and board is $10,666, books and supplies are $1,000

a. It is not as large as UCF, the student population is about 41,362 ( 33,008 undergraduate) b. It has everything in campus as same as UCF. Now I study in Valencia College, so I do not want to move to the other city, because I get used to everywhere in Orlando .

Advantage Student Population: Use College Navigator to answer these questions. a. Discuss the student population and demographic. How it will encourage your personal development and college success? b. What is the student to faculty ratio? c. What is your comfort level with the student population and student to faculty ratio?

a. UCF has 86,06% of undergraduate student, it shows that UCF is very attractive university in Florida and it encourages me to study in UCF. b. Student to faculty ratio is 30 to 1, it means that one faculty can help 30 students about studying, living and moving around campus. c. UCF is a crowded university, it means UCF is an attractive university so it attracts a lot of student. Student to faculty ratio is 30 to 1, so I can see that UCF’s faculty is really helpful for student.

1. FSU has 79.87% of undergraduate students, and FSU offers so many awards such as Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree… It shows that I will have so many choices if I apply to FSU 2. Student to faculty ratio is 22 to 1. FSU’s faculty can help many student to feel comfort to study better, they can have more focus on their students. FSU’s student to faculty ratio is smaller than UCF, it means that faculty can take care of their students, because one faculty only need to care about small group of students.

Final analysis: In 100 – 250 words, explain why you selected a particular school and the reason you gave it the advantage over the other institution. Include specific facts that demonstrate you have thought critically about the institution you have selected. I have been studying for Valencia College for a year, and I know that after two years in Valencia College, I’ll need to choose which University I should transfer because I am an AA degree student. During this time, I have been searching around about UCF, USF, FSU… Therefore, I make a comparison about a few universities in Florida. My major is Business Administration and I knew that UCF’s MBA program is ranked among top 10 “Best Administered” in nation, thus. I am really attracted about this fact. Moreover, UCF is ranked as one of the biggest universities in nation; in my opinion, UCF is like a small town, so I think when I’ll study in UCF, I wouldn’t need to go anywhere to relax after class, I only need to stay in campus, because it gets everything that I need, I only need to focus on studying.

Updated June 2018

What if I don’t see my major? 

If you are a Health Sciences major: the AA degree is listed as your primary degree, while your AS degree is listed as a secondary degree. Secondary degrees do not populate here in the Degree Audit.

If you are a dual enrollment or a non-degree seeking student: then you will see the program listed as “Personal Interest.”

If you have not changed your major yet: your old degree will stay in the system until a Change of Major form is submitted and processed. If you fall under any of these categories, then you MUST select the “What-If Analysis” link at the end of the screen, select your entry term, choose your intended major, proceed through the next screens, and then continue to step 6.

7. Review the entire Degree Audit to understand all of the courses that are necessary for your program/major. The courses that you have already completed or that are in progress will be reflected with a “Yes” in the Met column along with additional details in the other columns. Sections that say, “No” indicate that you are missing course(s) in that area to complete your program.

8. Save a copy of the Degree Audit as a PDF for upload with this assignment.

Google Chrome instructions: If using Google Chrome, right click on your Degree Audit, select “Print”, and then change the Destination to “Save as PDF”.

How to access your Degree Program Sheet Follow the steps to access your Degree Program Sheet. After reviewing the Degree Program Sheet, refer back to your Degree Audit. Determine which common program prerequisites can be used to satisfy the General Education and elective requirements for your AA degree. Updated June 2018

1. Locate your Degree Program Sheet. To obtain your degree program sheet, go to your transfer institution’s undergraduate catalog.

This will help you complete the Term-By-Term worksheet. 3. Save a copy of the Degree Program Sheet as a PDF for upload with this assignment.

Part 3B: What do I need (cont.)? Using your Degree Audit and your Degree Program Sheet, you will plan out the remaining required courses for your AA degree (you do not have to include junior level (3000) and senior level (4000) courses). 1. Type in the year of the term for each term box. 2. Start by filling in what you are currently taking now (you do not have to include previous courses in this plan). 3. Under the courses column, type the course prefix and code for the course you need to take (ex. ENC 1101, not English Comp). 4. Include the credit hours for each course and then total the credit hours for the term at the bottom of the column. 5. Repeat this for all terms until you complete your AA degree and the necessary pre-requisites for your program. For a sample plan, on the following link.
