Textbook: Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 8th Edition, by James Stewart Fall 2019 Academic Calendar: https://sph.tulane.edu/academic-calendar-fall-2019

Grading Policy: The semester letter grade will be given based on your performance in three tests (15% each), the final exam(35%), and quizzes and homework(20%). It is the policy that missing the final exam or failing to turn in any reasonable effort on homework will automatically result in an "F" grade for the course. Final Exam: Time: Friday, Dec 13, 8:00AM -12:00Noon. Location: To be announced. Tests and Quizzes: There will be three (3) tests during the semester. Quizzes will be given weekly during lab meeting on Thursday( except in test weeks). There will be no make-up quizzes and no make-up tests. However, in some extreme cases, if you are forced to miss the test, you must notify me within three (3) days of the date of the test, preferably before the test is given. For the Final Exam, you must notify me before or on the date of the exam. An excuse from your doctor or other appropriate authorities must be presented at that time. The tentative dates for the tests are o o o

Homework: Homework will not be collected. However, some homework problems, with or without slight modifications, will appear in quizzes and tests. (So will the examples that I present in my lectures.) Thus it is absolutely

imperative to work on each of the problems assigned below. A strong, day to day effort on the homework is essential for the success in this course.

Calculator Policy: No calculators are allowed for quizzes, tests, and the final exam. Materials to be Covered: Ch.2. $2.1---2.8; Ch.3. $3.1---3.10; Ch.4. $4.1--4.5, 4.7, 4.9; Ch.5. $5.1---5.5; Ch.6. $6.1---6.4; Ch.7. $7.1---7.4, 7.8; Ch.8. $8.1, 8.2; Ch. 9. $9.1---9.5; Ch.10. $10.1---10.4; Ch.11. $11.1---11.11. On the first five chapters, we will proceed in an accelerated pace with approximately three sections per lecture on average. We will continue with the last five chapters at a regular pace with approximately one section per lecture. Students without prior credit but who nevertheless feel they are at this level are encouraged to start 1310. Their performance will be assessed after the first test, and some who do poorly may be wise to drop the course and enroll in Math 1210 at that time. The Mathematics Department will facilitate these course changes. The Thursday labs will be help sessions in which the lecture materials are reviewed and homework problems discussed. Most labs will have a 15-minute quiz drawn from the week’s homework problems. It is vital to do your homework timely. Ask questions about the homework in class and in the lab session. Credit: Students can obtain credit from this course for math-1210 only if they get a B- or better in their course grades. ADA/Accessibility Statement Any students with disabilities or other needs, who need special accommodations in this course, are invited to share these concerns or requests with the instructor and should contact Goldman Center for Student Accessibility: http://accessibility.tulane.edu or 504.862.8433.
