The Readiness Assurance Process in this course includes taking both iRATs and tRATs. Please explain what these acronyms mean. iRAT (Individual Readiness Assurance Test) tRAT (Team Readiness Assurance Test) iRATs will be based on pre-requisite recordings/readings and will be made of 5 multiplechoice questions. For tRATs, each team will then have up to 10 minutes to discuss the questions and complete the tRAT as a separate quiz. Students will 2 collaborate in the randomly assigned groups during their team quizzes (tRAT) delivered via Examplify app of ExamSoft software 5. What is the purpose of taking iRATs and tRATs? Readiness Assurance Tests (RAT) are the assessment of students’ knowledge of background material and basic concepts. The material covered in the RAT is the knowledge that students need to know in order to practice advanced application in the application exercises (AEs) and will consist of some factual information and some basic application questions in a multiple choice format. 6. How much time will be allotted to iRATs and tRATs? 5 minutes at the beginning of the class, then 10 minutes discussion with the group then tRATs 7. What resources are you allowed to use during iRATs? For each quiz/iRAT, students will be allowed to have one 8x11 sheet of paper with handwritten notes (both sides can be used). Any photocopied sheets will constitute academic dishonesty. Quiz preparation is critical and you should NOT depend on this sheet; rather use it only to supplement your knowledge if needed. Students often find that they know the correct answer but have difficulty explaining why it is correct. Your teams are a valuable resource for practicing the explanation of why.

During each session, following the completion of each RAT, the majority of class time involves the use of Application Exercises (AEs, e.g. patient cases, team activities or scenarios). These application exercises stress the use and application of course concepts to various patients and provide in-depth critical thinking practice. These application activities may have more than one acceptable answer and center around a learning point or points. Students will be assigned to preselected teams for the duration of semester, and will work during the discussion time together on classroom activities. Use of cameras/webcams are required for this part of the course. Faculty will utilize polling questions in video conferencing software to assess student engagement and determine participation grade.
