my 4 year plan...

Description

Brandon Walker 2/5/2016 4 Year Plan I am a sophomore here at BYU-Idaho. This is my fourth semester. When I looked at the required classes and the order you should take them according to the reading, I realized I am a bit off schedule. So my third semester I took Psych 111. Now this semester, my fourth, I am taking Social Science Statistics, Psych 112, and History and Systems. So I kind of skipped Psych 302 but I will be sure to get it in soon. So my plan has changed a bit in the last 3 months. I met a girl here at school, we dated, and now we are planning a wedding for April 8th. So that makes a difference on my schooling. I am on track Winter/Spring normally. I did 2 semesters before my mission and then like I mentioned, I am in my fourth total semester, second since being back. I should be taking a full load of credits next semester but since I am getting married, I will be taking a ½ credit online class. I will use that time to work and support my wife as she finishes her last semester and graduate in July. Then I will be back on track in January 2017. I am going to go into the Academic Discovery Center and figure out how to become a seminary teacher because this semester I have lost interest in psychology. I am glad I have a basic understanding but it is not something I want to pursue further. When I do get back on track, here are the classes I will need to take: 6 more credits of Religion (FDREL 212, FDREL 250, FDREL 235) Psych 302 Research Methods (CORE CLASSES) PSYCH 201 Developmental Psych Lifespan PSYCH 350 Social Psychology PSYCH 376 Cognition (ELECTIVE COURSES) I need to pick 27 credits of these Psych electives. I don’t think I can honestly say right now which classes I am going to take yet. That is too far in the future to tell. I will have to see which topics intrigue me the most up to that point. I am promised in my patriarchal blessing that I will be lead into the courses I need to be in, so I sort of take this one semester at a time. Just from glancing at them, the ones that stand out are: PSYCH361 Principle of Behavioral Learning, PSYCH365 Motivation and Emotion, and PSYCH370 Sensation and Perception. I have some ideas for internships with either local counselors I know, or at the St. Anthony Juvenile Correction Center. Hopefully those resources will also lead me to a job in that field for when I am graduated. I have a grandpa who was a counselor at BYU-I so I could talk to him about things. I also know

a few counselors in town who I could job shadow and get a feel for what they do. Plus they may be able to guide me in good directions for job opportunities. I also know two of the professors in the Psych department very personally, so they are valuable resources. As far as volunteering, I want to volunteer at Sons of Helaman which a local addiction recovery group. I have a roommate who can hook me up with them so I could get experience there. I expect to contact them and start getting involved after my wedding. So I plan on around end of April to start contacting and getting involved....
