Summary

Space-based technologies, namely communications satellites, enable global telecommunications systems by relaying signals with voice, video and data to and from one or many locations. This assignment relates to space technology....

Description

1. Electromagnetic waves can carry more data at higher frequencies. Why would a scientist opt to transmit data at a lower frequency instead? A scientist would opt to transmit data at a lower frequency rather than a higher frequency because higher frequencies travel shorter distances while lower frequency travels longer. This would make scientists want to transmit data at a lower frequency. 2. What are the limitations of sending information using electromagnetic waves? The limitations of sending information using electromagnetic waves is because it limits the range and availability of frequencies for sending information. 3. What are the differences between analog and digital signals? Analog signals travel in continuous waves and the strength and frequency vary while digital signals travel as an electric pulse and digital signals are more accurate and have less interference. 4. What are the advantages of using digital signals over analog signals? Advantages of using digital signals over analog signals are that digital signals have a better accuracy, a better noise reduction, and a better capacity to send information. 5. Using reliable internet sources, identify three ways we use analog and digital signals in our everyday lives. Three ways that we use digital signals and analog signals in our everyday lives is using mobile phones and laptops. They are digital nowadays but they used to be analog. We use these devices all day, everyday! They are used for calling, texting, playing games, searching things up, etc. And an analog signal that we use in our everyday lives are radios, they haven’t changed to be digital, they have been analog since radios have been made. If there is a power outage most people turn to a radio to hear information because mobile devices won’t work when there are power outages.

1. Describe how radio telescopes are used to explore space. Radio telescopes are used to explore space when stars emit different types of radiation, the telescope has a unique reflector to explore space with. 2. How are radio waves used on Earth? Radio waves are used on Earth because then scientists and other people can see the celestial bodies. 3. Why do radio telescopes convert radio waves (analog signals) to electrical (digital) signals for analysis? (Hint: What did the article say about the advantages of digital signals?) Radio telescopes convert radio waves to electrical signals for analysis because radio waves from the area are seen by using reflectors. The radio receptor converts the radio waves into electrical signals and then the electrical signals are amplified and then transmitted to the center of the parabola....
