I want to look at the humanities in my future professional career. My future career is going to be in the sports world. I'm studying sports management and I believe the impact that the humanities have had on this field has been huge. In the past several years the sports world has really come around to the idea of women being in more prominent roles. An example of this is the San Antonio Spurs hiring Becky Hammon who played in the WNBA to the coaching staff and this past year she coached the summer league team to a title. Another great impact the humanities have had on the sports world was this past month when the first-ever Asian-American woman was hired as a General Manager of the Miami Marlins. The impact this has on the sports world is it opens the doors for other women to follow their dreams and that they can run a professional team. When we look back at how the humanities have changed the sports world for women even 3 years ago women never would be looked at for coaching positions in any major sport. Now you can look at the NFL & MLB they have women in powerful prominent roles, and they will continue to knock down the walls for other women. The way that I can make use of these principles is to continue to break down the barriers that block women from working in coaches’ roles and even in the front office of any sports roles. I think it’s important that we look not just at the sex of a person when they apply for a job but to look at the overall resume. When the Marlins hired Kim Ng, she had over 30 years of experience and if a male with the same amount of experience even a year ago they would have been hired before her. I think that's so wrong and that we need to take that stereo type out in the job world....
