8-2 Short Paper: Metrics Mackenzie Murphy QSO – 300 Operations Management Instructor Stephanie Busam 12/20/2020

In the field of operations management, I am sure that several measures are used to assess the degree of performance achieved. Most widely used in making these decisions are growing customer experience through customer service, quality, productivity, cost reduction, and financial results of the company. Improving the customer's experience will always be a key factor in the performance of the business manager, which will reflect on the business. Using input from the customer on the production cycle times and on-time delivery of their orders would make it possible to enhance the manufacturing process that is practiced in each department. Maintaining a high degree of quality can also be used to assess the performance of the operations managers. A company that ensures a high level of quality and aims to deliver with a zero-defect mentality will perform with very few customer complaints or refusals, as well as with the presentation of a favorable return. Performance is used as a measure by looking at the throughput and power level that is being used. This will display the quantity of product generated in the plant-based on machine run times and the overall capacity to be used continuously. This will also allow for a specific timetable for producing the full amount of production. The greatest metric on which the Operations Manager is measured is the ability to reduce the cost of production. This is a measurement that covers all controllable costs involved in the manufacture of finished goods, such as energy prices, raw materials, and personnel levels, to name a few. This can be accomplished by managing revenue per employee level to ensure that the full amount of profit is produced in the manufacturing process. To be reliable, these metrics must be supported by accurate evidence that will support either positive or negative outcomes. If there are inaccuracies in the results, the bottom line would be distorted which could lead to incorrect business decisions. Customer experience metrics use input from consumers in the form of reviews and surveys that assess the overall

product. Although each customer's feedback would be different from the other, They'll express the emotions they have about the product they've ordered. Some businesses often use input from consumers to build a quality database to learn where they need to change so that customers are happy. In manufacturing, there are often ways to enhance the method that is used to shave off of a piece that is made some time. Data analytics play a big part in this. By using data obtained during the operating process, an organization can predict how a piece of equipment is working and make decisions as to what consumers need and how best to satisfy their needs. Through reviewing the data, the process can be controlled and changes made to ensure that the data is preserved. By analyzing the data, the process can be tracked and changes made to keep the output levels on track for delivery of the product on time. The introduction of the metrics in the manufacturing process and the study of the data obtained from these processes would give companies a competitive advantage by introducing a continuous improvement of their thinking and modifying where appropriate....
