SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) RT-PCR: NEGATIVE Methodology and Clinical Significance: SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) is a non-authorized LDT (Laboratory Developed Test) using real-time PCR amplification. The laboratory is CLIA approved for high complexity testing. This test was developed and the performance characteristics determined by Biogenetics Diagnostics in accordance with the “Policy for Coronavirus Disease-2019 Tests During the Public Health Emergency” guidance released by the FDA. This test is used for clinical purposes. It should not be regarded as investigational or for research. A result of “Negative” does not rule out nucleic acid concentrations below the limit of detection of the assay or the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen. Improper specimen handling can cause false negatives. False positives can be caused by PCR contamination.

Methodology: The BinaxNow Covid-19 Ag is a lateral flow immunassay intended for the qualitative detection of nucleocapsid protein antigen from SARS-CoV-2 in direct nasal swabs. Disclaimer: Negative (Not Detected) results do not rule out SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in those who have been in contact with the virus. Samples collected too early in the disease may test negative. Follow up testing with a molecular diagnostic should be considered to rule out infection. Positive (Detected) results do not rule out bacterial infection or co-infection with other viruses.
