Description

Dramatic play

What Happened: Nazorine and Arianna were playing with the babies in the dramatic centre. Nazorine was using the shampoo for the baby and uttering the word” ampoo” along with bathing the baby. Arianna brought the clothes of baby and then started dressing up the baby. Later they started covering the baby with the blanket and then kept the baby in the crib. Then they started cooking up in the kitchen when I asked what were making, Nazorine replied soup for baby.

What it Means: It was very interesting for me to note that you were very engaged while playing with the babies. You were so focussed that you kept on doing things one after the other without any distractions. Also you were very clear while communicating your views with each other. You demonstrated interest in social play as you both were liking each other’s company. I observed that you like to play in the dramatic centre often.

Opportunities and Possibilities: We are planning to extend your experience of dramatic play further. We are thinking to introduce the doctor kit for children where children would be able to learn the role of different social service providers such as doctors and nurse. Also the children would be able to add new words to their vocabulary. The children would enact different roles such as doctor, nurse and patient and would be a part of social play.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE PLAN

Introduction What is your idea? How does this experience relate to the Learning Story? What do you hope children will learn from this experience?

Materials Be specific about details like size, colour and quantity of all materials. Indicate what new materials you will be bringing and what materials you will use that already exist in the classroom.

Exploration & Inquiry How, when and where will you make the materials available to the children? How have you taken into consideration the four Foundations for Learning: engagement, well-being, belonging and expression? How will you support and provoke children’s exploration and learning? Give specific examples of what you and the children will say and do. How will you support children with varying abilities?

we are thinking to provide children with the doctor kit including thermometer, stethoscope, some medicines, plastic needle. This learning experience relates to the learning story as it expands their interest for enacting different roles while engaged in a dramatic play. the children will be able to learn the role of doctors, nurse and patients and would also be able to add new words into their vocabulary. New material(s) you are introducing

During the indoor playtime we would provide the children with all the materials in the dramatic area . we would keep the material on the table so that children can choose their role and play comfortably. This activity would allow them to choose their roles and express openly. Also it is planned as per their interest so it would keep them engaged. The materials used would be safe which would ensure well-being for the children and they will connected to the classroom. To provoke the interest in children I would myself enact the role of patient and ask for doctor. This would help in initiating the play. The children who would not communicate much or would be simply sitting and not participating. I would reach out to them and offer them roles to play. This would encourage them to join.

Closure/Transition How will you know when the children are finished? If needed, how will you facilitate children’s transitions to other

When the children would start moving to other areas it would indicate the end of the activity. We would ask them to clean up before transitioning to other areas. Revised August 2018
