A1 Essay: Challenging and Exploring Your Conceptions about Writing, Reading, and Research. Writing is not only putting words on paper; however, it is a way to express your thoughts and feelings. Writing can be educational, entertaining, or informing. All of which is developed and created by the writer themselves. You can create passion from your words to inspire others and develop one’s mind to understand your own a little better. Writing is developed through main key points. Some that truly stand out to me are the fact a writer must be epistemic, have exigence in their piece, as well as use voice to show emotion and passion throughout ones writing. Writing is a tool not only for the writer but for the reader as well. As I have grown up writing in classes from elementary, now, to the university standards, I have learned techniques and importance’s to creating a well-developed piece. I am not one to write only about knowledge but to include personality. I am not necessarily intrigued by research papers rather those on personal experiences. It has shown me an outlet to letting feelings out onto paper in the form of words. One must have a target audience with their writing as not each and every person enjoys reading the same thing. As I incorporate my voice as my most valuable element inwriting, it can let the reader develop an idea of who I am, what I am about, and what my ambitions are. Monotone writing can be too boring to be allowed to get sucked in and enjoy the reading. When using voice, it can excite a reader or share the emotion that was

developed in the paper. Helping that reader simply get through the piece and possibly relating to certain things which can be an outlet or an escape for those readers. When writing on knowledge or research, I always incorporate epistemics, as this makes the reader feel that what they are reading is knowledgeable and credible due to citations or proof of knowledge. Without knowing where information was gathered or researched, it can seem false or not credible. Not having validity in a research paper can lead the reader to believing there is bias or prejudice to the given topic in this reading. In text citations are also what I have found to be a large benefit in writing as it is constantly reminding my reader of knowledge throughout the paper, rather than only seeing MLA citations after the paper is completely read. I also have very strong opinions around certain positions in today society and feel the need for writing to contain an element of exigency. Exigency is shown as the urgent need to a specific solution. This can be shown in articles writing on current events possibly regarding topics such as racism, government issues, sexism, or many more opinionated pieces. This brings me back again to making sure my writing is epistemic, as it may not be scholarly knowledge, it still shows you have researched or have had past experienced upon a certain issue(s) and it is not just ideas in the writers head where they think they are the only one with the answers to specific problems. This will convey the readers mind to understand different perspectives as well as empathize to the given subject. I have grown accustom to try to enjoy writing simply due to the fact, if one does not enjoy what they are writing about, it will not become the quality of work it could or should be. I take this into account when writing things such as scholarship essays,

resumes or job applications. You do not want an employer or scholarship committee to view your paper as boring or bland by giving bullet pointed lists of accomplishments and past experiences. They want to hear how you describe the experience, giving a little bit of personality in the writing. Writing must be proper in many instances as it is perceived that if one doesn’t write grammatically correct or includes spelling errors, they may not be taken as seriously as expected. Whether it be a police officer composing a crime report, a professor or teacher drafting a lesson plan for the next day’s class, or a lawyer concluding the legalities case in the court of law, They all have the fact that their writing must be proper, grammatically correct, and not wandering words by staying on the given subject. It is well known that many corporations or companies look for employees who have demonstrated a high-quality mind in writing as writing can be the simple fact one person got hired over another. Writing properly is everywhere in today’s world and as us students age, we tend to see the importance of it a little more every day. Lastly, writing is a way to display one’s education, critical thinking skills, as well as intelligence and intellect. Although writing well is not necessarily an easy thing to do. It almost seems, to write well, I must know the English language like the back of my hand. So many ways to nit-pick a piece of literature makes it scary for others to review. Yet, we are no longer writing the way we did in 5th grade, 8th grade, or even as a junior in high school. Writing will constantly help improve my feeling that you are constantly expanding your mind to new ideas and forms of thinking to then translate these thoughts into ink on paper. I have come to the conclusion that writing is a result of comprehension, reading and how one views information. It amalgamates a person’s intellect along with their

capacity for holding knowledge, in order for one to communicate it at the most successful levels possible.
