Callan Zackri Woolnough 180876700 An300 Dr. Andre Czegledy October 4, 2020 Abstract Within the educational systems worldwide children are taught many important things that will be used further in their lives moving forward, however with all of these important topics taught there are still many trivial subjects that many believe to hold no real weight in the real world but are taught nonetheless. Within one of the major subjects (history) that many would deem important there seems to be a glaring, consistent suppression of information regarding colonialism. Within these classes there appears to be an agenda where certain topics are disregarded, or even not brought up. This topic regards around the indigenous people of the Caribbean, but more specifically the Taino of Jamaica. They were the people that inhabited the Island before it was colonized. This topic happens to get brushed under the umbrella topic of colonialism, and it is time for their to be recognition for the massacre of their people and as well as for their descendents. The main concern is why there is no stress to add this information to the forefront of history, and why that is the case. Once international recognition is garnered, it needs to be referred to the massacre that it was as moving forward and not just brushed underneath colonialism like it currently is taught.
