Description

Amazon Case Study Amazon is an electronic commerce and a cloud computing business in Seattle, Washington (Amazon, 2017). Amazon first started out as an online bookstore, and later diversified to be a major online shopping website (Amazon, 2017). When Amazon decided to be diverse, this included electronics, video games, toys, jewelry, etc. (Amazon, 2017). Amazon has been performing well for business over the course of the years. In 2016, Amazon has seen a $38 Billion increase in revenue compared to 2015 (Amazon.com, 2017). ON a smaller scale outlook, Amazon has seen an increase in revenue from first quarter’s revenue of $35.71 Billion compared to third quarter revenue of $43.74 Billion (Amazon.com, 2017). Analyst predicts a 18.84% 5year long term growth in the earnings of Amazon (Amazon.com, 2017). Jeff Bezos is an American technology and retail entrepreneur, and is the CEO of Amazon (Jeff Bezos, 2017). Jeff Bezos was a child born of a teenage mother, who was only 17 when he was born (Jeff Bezos, 2017). Usually people stereotype teenage pregnancies, and the issues that come from them. This wasn’t the case with Jeff Bezos, instead Jeff Bezos later grew to achieve graduating from Princeton University (Jeff Bezos, 2017). His degrees from Princeton consisted of a bachelor’s in electrical engineering and computer science (Jeff Bezos, 2017). Amazon being electronic based, and on the internet, was an issue to consumers. When Amazon was founded in 1994, it was hard to have a consumer base that had access to the internet. This shortage of people’s access to the internet made it hard for Amazon to see true growth in the company on a smaller scale. That issue didn’t stop Jeff Bezos to currently have a net worth of $100.2 Billion (Jeff Bezos, 2017). This net worth didn’t just come from nothing, it all started with how invested Jeff Bezos is into making money in all aspects of the market. These aspects consist of the development of Blue Origin, Kindle Fire, Zappos, and now the whole food market (Jeff Bezos, 2017). Jeff Bezos is so invested in being able to provide for a wide variety of consumer-based needs. Amazon is in the business to make things easy for the consumer, this has started to involve delivery. Amazon has started making its own steps to a fast and reliable delivery service to its customers. It has been said that Amazon wants to be able to have its own fleet of private jets or even drones to deliver packages to costumers (How Amazon, 2017). This delivery idea is innovative and has made it to were both the provider and consumer don’t have to deal with UPS or FedEx (How Amazon, 2017). Instead of your normal mailman, imagine the idea of an UBER, but for someone delivering mail. Amazon has created a new expansion called Flex Drivers, which is initially drivers with a four-door car that is at least a mid-sized sedan or larger (How Amazon, 2017). This is a way Amazon can help provide a delivery service, while also providing a job to drive that pays roughly $18 to $25 per hours (How Amazon, 2017).

Jeff Benzos has reached out to inform people to have confidence in investing in his company (Yglesias, 2017). Being the biggest retailer in the world, serves its perks, such as being well known for a reliable go to. Despite being the biggest makes it to where people know, and will refer to you for their needs. Although being the biggest doesn’t guarantee the best for profits, it sure can have its perks if performed right. This will give a larger consumer base to be able to profit off, and being able to expand on it. This growth will lead the company in the direction to serve more reasons to why consumers turn to Amazon in what it has to offer. I would invest in Amazon for it has the right ideas for the direction it wants to head. Expanding a business to other markets isn’t always the easiest, but if performed right it will be profitable. It will just grow the business brought to the company resulting in more profits. If I had a choice in two corporate career choices at Amazon it would have to be operations management, and transportation & supply chain. I’ve always taken an interest in the thought of always finding a way to make things better. I would be good at striving to make operations more efficient, while less expensive. It would let me reach out, and work towards bettering my position and what I have to offer to the company. It would utilize my communicating, and social skills used to persuade and encourage the more efficient way to run. Transportation & supply chain has also been an interest in mine, which falls under always finding a way to make things better. I like the idea of having Flex Drivers, which is a modernday Uber for delivery services. I thought it was more convenient to have hired drivers to do deliveries for a specific business, rather a delivery service for everything. It would only spark my interest to see how efficient you can make delivery.
