Description

SPACES AND EXCHANGES I’m going to talk about the notion «!spaces and exchanges!». First of all, I’d like to give a definition of the notion. Exchanges refer to one or several people who give and receive. There are a lot of exchanges: commercial, financial, cultural, migratory… Spaces refer to a place, to a geographical and symbolic area where exchanges can take place. The different interactions like cultural, economic, sociological and language have shaped and characterized our modern-day world. To illustrate this notion, we may wonder what makes Britain Great? To answer to this question, my presentation will fall into three parts. First of all, I will concentrate on the Great Britain, then I will analyze the Commonwealth, before finally, focusing on the sport. First of all, it is important to remember that Great Britain has always been multicultural because it is made up of three separate countries: England, Scotland, Wales. We also studied a doc in class about the integration of Black Britons. Indeed, some Black Britons feel more British than English, Scottish or Welsh people. Secondly, the Commonwealth also contributes to make Britain Great. The Commonwealth is a group of 53 states all of which (except for two) were formerly part of the British Empire. Its main goal was to ease the process of British decolonization. It was seen as a way of maintaining global unity through shared language, history and culture despite growing independence and self-governance of former British colonies (2021 Scotland independence?) Queen Elisabeth II (second) is the Head of state but as no political power. The Queen symbolize British unity and represents Britain all over the world. Great Britain is a constitutional monarchy. The Prime Minister governs the country with the government and members of parliament. Theresa May (Conservative Party) is the current PM. Finally, sport is an essential part of British life. Many sports invented in Britain and played all over the world. Indeed, could bring people together around a sport exchange like Olympic Games which allows cultural exchange, etc.. To conclude, it could be said that Great Britain has remained a great country thanks to its ties with the Commonwealth and the British monarchy and that other factors such as multiculturalism and sport have helped make Britain Great. However, the country is in turmoil because of Brexit which could lead to Britain being isolated from the rest of Europe. Brexit for dummies Brexit is the term used to refer to the UK’s decision to leave the European Union (EU) and is a shortened version of British exit. On June 23, 2016, the UK held a referendum and decided to officially leave the UE. Brexit has not yet happened because no agreement has been reached on the leaving conditions. Theresa May (Prime Minister) has negociated a leaving package but British MP’s (Members of parliament) have voted against it...
