APA In-Text Citation Notes Citations are used every time you summarize paraphrase or quote an idea or source. All paraphrased or summarized content that includes in text citations must include the author's last name and the date of publication. All quoted material in in-text citation must include the author's last name, title of source, page and paragraph number. Properly formatted in text citation for a summary in-text citation for a summary paraphrase includes Jones(2006) when summarizing or paraphrasing from a source the authors last name and the publication date can be included as a part of the sentence. For citing a direct quote the author's last name and the date of publication can be included within the sentence with the page or paragraph number placed at the end of the sentence.
