Mandatory essay based on a movie ...
The movie “Apocalypto”, was directed and produced by Mel Gibson, an American actor and filmmaker. It was also written by Gibson and Farhad Safinia, an Iranian-American screenwriter and film and TV producer. Apocalypto was released on December 8, 2006. This movie was based on true life events. Apocalypto is a movie that portrays how the mesoamericans used to live. How the mesoamericans believed in reincarnation. Furthermore, the term reincarnation, means the rebirth of a soul in a new body. It’s about a Mesoamerican tribesman, Jaguar Paw, that knows he must escape the human sacrifice to rescue his family after being captured by the Mayans. The mayans caused plenty of damage to his village. Three main characters were Jaguar Paw, the good guy, and Zero Wolf as well as his son Cut Rock, and the bad guys from the Mayan tribe. Jaguar Paw kills Cut Rock, and Zero wants to get even with Jaguar for killing his son. Later Zero is killed by Jaguars trap. What I liked about this film was how the mesoamericans were all united. How they protected each other. I liked how the little boy told the mayan men that he knew that they feared him and they were gonna get what they deserved. Besides, there was more things that I disliked than liked in this film. I disliked how the Mesoamericans were either sold or sacrificed to the Gods. one thing I really disliked was how the Mayans treated the mesoamerican women. For example, how they were sold or raped. I found it very disturbing how the mesoamerican men were killed. The scene that showed how they would cut open their chest and cut their heart out and how they would cut their head off was very disturbing. Overall, “Apocalypto” was an okay movie....
