MIXED CONDITIONALS: FORMS a) If + 3rd conditional (cause or reason Past reference) + 2nd conditional (result Present reference) If she hadn’t taken her daughter to the hospital, she would be dead .
MIXED CONDITIONALS: FORMS b) If + 2nd conditional (cause or reason Present reference) + 3rd conditional (result Past reference) If Juan were an honest person, his wife wouldn’t have suffered that much.
MIXED CONDITIONALS: USES • To express regret or disatisfaction in the present for something that happened in the past. If you hadn’t arrived late, we would be on the plane right now.
WISHES: FORMS & USES 1. Wish/If only+ PAST SIMPLE Use: For present situations that cannot be changed and we would like them to be different. I wish I had more time to finish my project.
WISHES: FORMS & USES 2. Wish/If only+ WOULD+ INFINITIVE Use: For present situations that could change in the future, and for criticizinng current situations She wishes her daughter would be more responsible.
WISHES: FORMS & USES 3. Wish/If only+ COULD+ INFINITIVE Use: For present situations that could change in the future, and for criticizinng current situations AND the subject of both verbs are the same Carmen wishes she could participate in that project
