Assignment 4 ABC Railway

1. What are potential advantages and disadvantages of entering into these "power-bythe-mile" arrangements? 

One of the major benefits is that a significant amount of money can be saved by the company that can be done in several ways. If the company uses other manufacturers and does not pay for equipment and products, it would save money.

ABC anticipated that Vice President John Thomchick would save around $5 million a year in the event of suggestions. The deals would enable the company to eliminate many of its existing issues.

The excess of rental time for ABC is another downside of the arrangements. New buyers offer better space for locomotives to have a longer lease period. Another benefit is that it will eventually increase employment in these deals. I think that true workers must be well compensated for, but they are going to do much more presently.

The other advantage is being enhanced customer service and relations . The improved financial situation of the railroad has permitted the rail industry to provide an extra customised service to its customers.

It has really makes for greater equipment and therefore more easiness when negotiating contract rates for volume movements.

The similar would apply in respect to worker productivity ratio where it was assumed that ABC would provide supervision, not the organizations supplying the equipment, as it would greatly improve productivity. If ABC doesn't meet the desired ratio, it must pay a penalty for the performance gap.

As cost savings is an important advantage desired through an arrangement of this sort, ABC and its leasing companies can commit to work for a reduction in overall costs through quality improvement procedures and technical changes.

The agreement would encourage the two parties to share the profits on a predetermined basis. This would also provide for an increase in shared labour and material costs. Both teams will be responsible for providing solutions to the enhancement of the programme.

There are some disadvantages as true workers could be something terrible for ABC now. The explanation is that in terms of locomotive service, all workers should not do this. All staff, if they even know this, should be involved in the training process to

learn how to do it. Occasionally, workers want their work to improve, because they're going to do harder because the company can't fix the issues. 

Another concern may be that ABC will not save or make as much money as anticipated. What if the organisation wants to make plans and ultimately doesn't like them, how doesn't it work in the way they really want? For instance, the loss of revenue, the loss of customers and even the weakening of companies would have a huge effect on the business.

The deals must improve for the customer, but how does the company get benefit if the product is still poor? If the service is bad, ABC is losing its viewers and the arrangements are very ineffective at this stage, new deals will make the cost of employment an issue.

The cost of working is not that affordable and will grow because the company requires all employees to do their jobs now. This could lead to work losses. In order to save the workforce, ABC will not reduce its workers. This is not bad, as some jobs are out of business.

2. What should be done if the problem with the locomotives continues even with the agreements? As the last 20 years have been a struggle for ABC, it really needs us to look back and think differently about what can be done. There are some new things in the company that can be modified. You would like to invest in new jobs, and this is because the workers would eventually have a negative effect on the company if they have the same staff, both supervisors and employees, over the past 20 years and nothing has changed. 

The entry of new workers would contribute to a lot of positive progress and change. New workers could submit interesting and innovative ideas to ABC, as well as to the staff. They may also have several future options to do differently with the locomotives.

ABC should also know what to do in the refurbished repair centre. Since the redevelopment, the store continues to be highly inefficient. When it has been restored, the company will either get rid of the store or determine what happens in the repair shop and fix it.

I think the company just needs to meet all the company's employees to discuss the subject with them and to get everyone's opinions on it. This could be very beneficial for the company, and these discussions could contribute to some new ideas. It is

inevitable that the problem of poor service should be resolved if it does not affect the business, as it can lead to significant losses for the customer and a financial dedication to the organisation. 

The Chairmen, the Vice-Chairmen and the majority of the team should sit down and discuss problems of the past and what to do to change matters. They will compare last year's better and poor to point out what they did and did not do with it. If the ABC is really to succeed, they have to change their business.

ABC can also merge with another organisation as another possible alternative. If they were to incorporate with another corporation, ABC would save some funds because it would not cover all of the costs. The biggest problem with mergers is that all companies cannot keep any of their staff and workers, they would maintain the best employees of each company. Fresh employees and workers could also be hired if necessary. The company may also be helped with the recruitment of new staff. While ABC has problems with its locomotives, its staff and workers cannot do the same.

Personally, I agree that they can keep their best workers and expect to attract even more qualified and trained employees. The company could benefit from taking in more trained employees and perhaps significantly improve service.

Investment in machines can also be taken in ABC. For the railway industry, technology is becoming more important. "Computers on which locomotives begin to be designed to help them identify technological problems play an important role in every mode of transport." All of the technical options that the company should consider are ATCS, railway yard management, networking and signalling and customer relations.

ABC always should rely on its service to its consumers. Customer service plays a big role in every business. If customers are not satisfied, that could be harmful for the organization and cause a lot of sales loses. Enhancing customer experience is very important. The technologies would make the organisation more successful and have a beneficial effect.

3. Do you think that the decision to lease the locomotives was the best decision for ABC? Explain your answer. Yes, this is the perfect arrangement, since all of ABC’s concerns can be resolved. In exchange, the company would save $5 million annually and will not have to pay for locomotive parts and supplies. This lease agreement, in my opinion, was a strategic decision 4

for the firm. The organisation saw that its internal equipment was not that efficient for the corporation. It was highly important that the business resorted to newer methods of addressing the problem. Bringing better locomotives from a third party will also be profitable for the company in the long run. ABC Railways will be capable of exerting a strategic advantage in the industry and there will be better opportunities for the company. 4. Pick two Container Ports in Canada and discuss which railways services the ports, how freight is moved from the port to the customers and list two customer concerns expressed regarding delivery of the freight.

- Port of Vancouver Overseen by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, is the biggest port in the country. It is the third largest in terms of tonnage capacity in North America. As the main port supporting trade between both the nation and other global economies for its strategic positioning between the various ocean trade networks and the river fishing lanes. The port handles over 76 million metric tonnes of the country's total cargo that also loosely translates to over $43 billion in exporting and importing goods from international trading partners.[ CITATION Can \l 16393 ] The two main methods of moving cargo at the Port of Vancouver are trucks and railroad. The Port Authority of Vancouver Fraser is developing capacity for container trucks and railroads to transport freight to and from the port on land.

- Port of Montreal This port, situated on the Saint Lawrence River Seaway, has had a significant influence on Quebec and Montreal's economy. This is because it is located between North America, the Mediterranean region and Europe on the quickest direct trading route. In this port, using some of the new technologies has ensured performance. They have just begun using AI-driven intelligence to predict the right times for drivers to take their containers or drop them off.[ CITATION Can \l 16393 ] The Port of Montreal is at the centre of a highly interconnected rail, road and pipeline network. Ships, trucks and trains converge at a common venue, reducing freight transfer times. The opportunity to transport goods farther inland by vessel creates cost-effective and environmental benefits for shippers. 5

Nowadays, customers are concerned about transit time of the delivery. Sometimes, it took days or weeks to deliver the product. This is the main concern of customers whether the product get by specified time or would take more days. Other concern is about the damage of the product. There may occur breakage or damage to the product while in transit. If the product is costly, they are more concerned about the damage.
