Chronic stable angina: Substernal chest pain, pressure, heaviness. Unstable angina: Pain occuring at rest; no increase in O2 demand Diagnostic Procedures

Creatinine kinase, troponin, HbA1C and fasting lipid panel, coagulation studies, CRP, hemoglobin

Chest pain and clinical history. Blood tests, 12 lead ECG, ECG stress test, radionuclide, cardiac catheterization, nitroglycerin test

PATIENT-CENTERED CARE

Nursing Care Thoroughly assess anginal attack. Gather information about cardiac risk factors

Therapeutic Procedures Place patient in Fowlers position and administer oxygen.Obtain BP, apical pulse, and respiratory rate.

ACTIVE LEARNING TEMPLATES

Thoroughly evaluate any complaint of chest pain. Notify HCP and obtain ECG for complaints of chest pain. Be alert to common alternative presentations of CAD and MI: Women, diabetics, elderly.

Complications Medications Nitrates, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, antilipid agent, antiplatelet agents, folic acid and B comlex vitamins
