Identifiers that can be used to verify the patient’s identification - patient’s first and last name - ID/band number - telephone number - DOB - barcode on band
- Know the facilities policies in regards to the administration of any kind of medication. - When planning to administer medication, prepare and gather all medication to prevent issues. - Stay with the patient for a few minutes to evaluate and document the patient’s reaction to the medication(s). - Know the medication; know the purpose, the mechanism of action, route of administration, safe dosage ranges, side effects, adverse effects, contraindications, etc. - have knowledge of skill competency. - determine accuracy of medication prescriptions. - REPORT AND DOCUMENT ALL ERRORS.
