Description of Procedure Peritoneal dialysis is the flushing of the peritoneal space with a dialysis solution to pull out
Indications Patients with diabetes and/or cardiovascular issues (less cardiac stress) in addition to kidney failure; patients who prefer to do dialysis at home; patients who need dialysis immediately
Outcomes/Evaluation Fluid balance is restored; electrolyte balances are restored; serum glucose is not too high or low; protein levels are not depleted
Potential Complications Exit site infection; peritonitis; hernias; lower back pain; bleeding; atelectasis, pneumonia, bronchitis; protein loss
