BA Toys – Background and History. BA Toys, Inc., is headquartered in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, and operates 20 retail toy stores from Maryland to Maine as well as an on-line ecommerce store. The company has grown over time, it started as a single store in Harrisburg, PA in the 1980’s. The founder had an entrepreneurial mindset and was interested in growing the company. From the 1980’s – 2000 the company added 3 additional locations. With the start of the internet, the company began looking for on-line opportunities to expand and began working with a banking firm for additional funds for growth. Over the next 5 years the company purchased competitors, added stores and formalized their business processes, software tools and their overall business model. Today, BA Toys has annual sales of approximately $450 million dollars. Costs of goods sold (COGS) are approximately $300 million dollars. Over the past 18 months the company initiated a business process reengineering (BPR) project which resulted in the identification of improvement opportunities by simplifying and standardizing operations. The company began migration from various functional systems to an integrated ERP system from NetSuite (more info on NetSuite on the web). With the NetSuite ERP system, the company began capturing data on transactions. The company combined records from legacy applications and Netsuite ERP system. The data represents sales transactions (4 million records), purchase transactions (800 thousand records) and inventory (75 thousand records) (note, we will work with a subset of total records). BA Toys began documenting business processes to help train new associates and have a consistent process that each store follows. First-draft process flowcharts were created for the sales and purchasing functions. There are several assignments that utilize BA Toys information, the activities are contained in Canvas Module Business Intelligence and Data Visualization. Graded activities require work in Microsoft Access

and Excel to answer the questions (for those of you with a Apple/Mac, you’ll find instructions on how to use RemoteApps to complete the work in Access). If you have issues using RemoteApps, you’ll need to contact ITAC for help....
