Arthur Newby Little Bill Banned Book The banned book that I have chosen is the children’s series Little Bill, written by the once great, now fallen, Bill Cosby. I selected this book because it was my absolute favorite series to read and watch when I was a child. In fact, when I was a little kid everyone said I looked like Little Bill. Which I’m not sure is a good thing anymore.

This book series is about an African

American child, based on Bill Cosby himself, who explores life and then learns a lesson at the end. It teaches young children lessons about life, lessons we still haven’t learned as adults, and helps them discern the difference between right and wrong. Little Bill lives with his parents, great-grandmother, and older brother and sister which shows a great example to African American children, as many black families are not whole. But unfortunately, the troubles of mankind made this innocent book series come tumbling down. This series was one of the top banned book series in 2016, number nine to be exact, for once I’m happy to not be number one. It was banned because of the scandal that happened with its writer, Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby was accused by many women of rape, and other sexual misconduct, and even though he was acquitted, most of the country believes he is guilty. Now everyone associates both this book, its series, and his famous show, with sexual misconduct. His shown, The Bill Cosby Show, is watched mostly by older adults so even though it is not aired much people do not want it completely banned. But Little Bill is read and watched by children, and people like me who are giant 6-year olds. Parents and concerned adults do not a book for children associated with sexual misconduct. The kids must be kept safe, for they are our future.

Even though I can understand why it was banned, I do not agree with them. Yes, Bill Cosby did many things that were not acceptable, but that does mean that we should take away the joy of children, and deprive them of this great literary masterpiece. Most children do not know who Bill Cosby truly is, and most children do not know what sexual assault is. If a child asks about the author tell them about the great things they have done, and find a way to hold back on the horrible, at least until they are older. It is like when a child asks where babies come from and you feel like you’re about to throw up. This book made me think, feel, and hope when I was a child and it still does. And I want to pass that on to other generations, and I want to pass that on to my kids. I know I will have people that do not agree, and maybe I have the unpopular side of the opinion, but this I what I feel is right in my heart....
